Event Summary: USATF at Del Norte High School: Basic Track & Field Skills

Friday, June 21, 2019. We had so much fun at this Track & Field Clinic!

21 athletes attended our first ever clinic of this kind at Del Norte High School, an outstanding turnout!

The athletes ranged from younger than age 9 up to age 16. Some athletes had experience competing in youth and high school track meets. For some, it was their very first day ever of formal T&F instruction!

Many beginners picked up the T&F skills right away. We had some impressive learners out there, everyone gave a great effort!

EVENT SCHEDULE:

First, Allison Halverson (IG @alli_sun_run), professional heptathlete, led a dynamic warmup from 9:30-10am.

Second, from 10am-12:15pm, athletes received instruction in 2 EVENTS of their choice, including:

  1. SPRINTS (Allison Halverson)

  2. LONG JUMP (Ann Stefan)

  3. HIGH JUMP (Tim Elkington)

  4. HURDLES (Allison Halverson)

  5. SHOTPUT (Colin Dunbar, IG @cdunbar7)

  6. DISCUS (Colin Dunbar)

Third, from 12:15-1:15, we all met up in the classroom for an interactive group lunch. We discussed track & field, watched videos, and had an informative Q&A with the coaches.๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿซ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿซ

About 10 parents joined for lunch, which really helped to bring the takeaway messages home!๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ Thank you parents for your help and involvement!๐Ÿ™

Paul Greer, San Diego T&F legend, (@sandiegotrackclub), joined us for lunch and the Q&A.๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿซ

It is my hope from Fridayโ€™s clinic that everyone:

  1. Learned something new

  2. Made a new friend, &

  3. Had a lot of fun!

We will be hosting 3 more clinics in July. The July clinics will be geared toward advanced high school track & field athletes. NCAA, adult, and youth athletes are welcome too! More info at the event page: USATF SD Summer 2019 Clinics at Del Norte High School.

Iโ€™m honored to have served as your event organizer (and unofficial event photographer)๐Ÿ˜‚
